    About Joseph A. Grochowski

My name is Joseph, a clinical psychologist, with more than 25 years of experience treating depression, anxiety, stress, and other psychological problems. Additionally, I have a master’s degree in Child Development, with experience in parenting, family issues, and expertise with Adolescents. My specialized training focused on anxiety, stress, trauma, and abuse, as well as grief and loss. My experience includes working with men, women, and LGBTQ persons.

We will utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), working together to improve psychological flexibility and work to discern what matters to you in your life to take committed action to achieve that life for you. We will utilize Mindfulness in our work together.

I believe that each person is unique and has the strengths and skills to create a meaningful and satisfying life.

We understand our lives by means of the stories that we tell ourselves or that others tell us about us; we will explore your stories together to learn which stories move our lives forward, and which stories might hold us back.

    What's in a name

Shalom is the Hebrew word for peace, and it is often used as a greeting or parting salutation. But the word shalom has a deeper meaning. Shalom means more than the absence of war, strife, or conflict. Rather shalom refers to a sense of completeness, wellbeing, harmony, health. Possibly prosperity.

May God bless you and keep you and let their face shine on you and be gracious to you and give you Shalom.

The word shalom reminds one of the phrases typical in the Buddhist Loving Kindness affirmations– May you be at peace; May you be healthy; May you prosper; May you be safe…

It is the mission of Shalom Counseling Services that you find Shalom in your own life, and that is my wish for you in your work with me; it is my wish for you if you decide to work with someone else.

    Joseph Grochowski, Psy.D.
